What Does 'Mija' Mean? The Word Behind Our Brand

What Does Mija Mean? More Than a Word—It’s a Reminder
If you’ve ever been called mija by someone who loves you, you already know it’s more than just a word.
In Spanish, mija is a term of endearment—a contraction of mi hija, meaning “my daughter.” But anyone who grew up hearing it knows that a literal translation doesn’t fully capture what it means.
It’s the warmth in your abuela’s voice. It’s love, comfort, and encouragement wrapped into two small syllables. It’s the feeling of being seen, cared for, and believed in—even when you’re struggling to believe in yourself.
The Word That Became a Mission
Keep Going, Mija was born in Los Angeles, shaped by my Mexican and Italian roots, and built on the belief that every woman deserves a reminder to keep going—especially when the road gets hard.
I grew up in a household where mija was a constant. It was said before a big test, after a difficult day, and whenever someone needed to be reminded that they were capable of more than they realized.
Over time, that word became a kind of compass.
When it came time to name this brand, nothing else felt right. Mija holds everything we believe in: You are loved. You are capable. You are enough. Keep going.
Why It Matters Now
We live in a world that moves quickly and asks so much of us. Women are often expected to carry it all and make it look easy.
Keep Going, Mija exists to remind you that you don’t have to.
It’s okay to rest. It’s okay to struggle. It’s okay not to have everything figured out. You can pause, begin again, and keep moving forward in your own way and at your own pace.
Every piece we create is designed to carry that spirit. When you wear Keep Going, Mija, you’re wearing a reminder for yourself—and offering a little encouragement to every woman who sees it.
Sometimes, the words on your sweatshirt or hat might be the quiet hug a passing stranger needs that day.
More Than a Brand, a Community
We’re rooted in Los Angeles—a city shaped by immigrants, dreamers, and people who refused to give up. That same energy lives in everything we do.
Through our Give Back program, we donate $5 from every purchase to charities supporting women and children. Because continuing forward is a little easier when you know there’s a community standing behind you.
Whether you found us through a hat, a friend, or a search for what mija means—welcome. You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.
Keep going, mija. We’re rooting for you.
xx,
Andie
